Zum Programm:
Ausgangspunkt
About the
program:
The starting point for this program was the
consideration that in vocal music the atmosphere as well as the character of a
piece of music is already determined by the choice of the lyrics.
The question arises whether a composer chooses a certain poem because it
suits his present emotional disposition or whether those emotions that finally
and inevitably trigger the composition are awakened by reading a certain
poetical work.
Is it necessary for a text to be artful in order to
support artistic work or will the artist’s “soul” show so much the more the
simpler the basic lyric material is?
For Folk-Songs I have chosen
compositions based without exception on folk poetry or folk music.
Unpretentious poems and melodies describe great emotions in a very simple but
nonetheless touching way and become the composer’s starting point for a new
interpretation and artistic development. In the end the character as well as
the atmosphere of the individual regions’ music and poetry is still preserved
but at the same time the listener is introduced to a new creation typical of
each composer’s musical language.
This musical
journey leads us from Benjamin Britten’s British Isles to Maurice Ravel’s
interest in
